Congresshas to choose whether or not to focus on the war or to focus on health care. Obama's new plan involves sending more troops to Afghan. People disagree with his plan because they feel that the U.S. is basically doing everything. They believe that the U.S. itself won't be able to win the war; they need the support from other countries and from Afghanistan itself. Afghanistan is working on raising its security, and allied forces have stated that they are willing to provide troops to support the U.S. forces. In order to pay for the war, they want to pass a bill to set up a war tax. Everyone will pay this tax except for the troops and their families. Congress wants to focus on the war and leave healthcare for next year. This could be for two reasons. One they really want to end the war, which is good. The other is that republicans might see this as an opportunity to stall health care reform, decreasing its momentum. The truth is that I believe that they should focus on ending the war first. The war has gone on for too long, and too many lives have been lost. I also believe that the U.S. will need help, but I wouldn't say it's not other countries' responsibility to help us. The U.S. had some fault in getting involved in a war unprepared, other countries don't have to get involved if they don't want to.
